2015 School Counselor Tweet Up: School Counselor PLN Meet Up at #ASCA15

Image
This year Carol Miller of The Middle School Counselor Blog will be hosting the School Counselor Tweet Up at #ASCA15.  Each year this event has gotten bigger and bigger! If you have the opportunity to go to the ASCA Conference I highly recommend it! I have had such a great time each year. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet your online school counseling colleagues IRL (in real life). Check out the Smore Flyer below to get more details about the 2015 School Counselor Tweet Up! Not able to attend #ASCA15 this year? You can still benefit by following the conference backchannel on Twitter! Two years ago school counselors who were not able to attend even started a hashtag #notataASCA13! A #notatASCA14 chat was even hosted this past year! Since I will be very pregnant during the ASCA conference, I plan on living vicariously through conference attendee's tweets in the comfort of my own home. For ideas of how to make the most of the ASCA Conference if you are in attendance or fr...

A Fun, Food-Filled Way of Announcing Your Pregnancy at Work

Image
The cat's out of the bag.... I'm pregnant! I am super excited to welcome Baby Schultz at the end of July! Life has been pretty crazy between working on a dissertation and planning for baby! Awhile back I announced my pregnancy at work. I thought I would share this idea with you all in case anyone is looking for a fun, food-filled way of announcing your pregnancy at work. I solicited my school counselor friend, Natasha, for cute work pregnancy announcement ideas.  She shared that someone she worked with brought in donuts and wrote the message "Eat up! My mommy doesn't want to be the only one with a belly! Love, Baby ______" on the lid. That was exactly the kind of idea I was looking for and involving food was a plus. What educator doesn't love free food?! I brought Dunkin Donuts and munchkins to work and put a sign inside the lid. Not a fan of donuts? You could use other types of sweets or snacks too! I brought the brownies below for my dist...

Throwback Thursday: Positive School Wide Behavior Intervention and Support Video

Image
In honor of Throwback Thursday I thought I would share a video that the School Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (SWPBIS) team created at my previous school to showcase and explain our SWPBIS Program. I have been thinking about this video a lot lately and I cannot believe I have never shared it with you. The population at our school was K-8 and we involved students in creating and starring in this video. Camp Curtin Elementary PBIS video from Skynine Live on Vimeo . We used this video to do full school refreshers of our program. We showed the video to new students and families to provide them with information about our school behavior expectations. It was a blast making this video with our excellent SWPBIS Team. The husband of one of the teachers I worked who is a professional videographer filmed and edited the video. If you have been a long time reader, you will notice that LaRRRy, our "Leopard Leader Recognition Mascot"  makes a few cameos...
