FREE Career Interest Games and Inventories on VA Career View

I have been searching for fun and interactive career activities to facilitate with students this year. I rediscovered Virginia Career View, which has a wealth of computer based and printable career activities. I have used this website many times, but each time I visit I am surprised by how truly awesome this site is.

In the K-5 Section of Virginia Career View there is an interactive game called Career Town! I used the Career Town game with some 5th grade students last year and they loved it. Career Town has three levels with different games to learn about jobs on each level.

The Career Town has an educators guide for each "level' of the game. The educators guide has ideas of how you can utilize the game to meet standards and includes ideas for extension activities.

In the 6-8 Grade section, there is a career cluster assessment activity called "Who R U?" There is a web-based version and a paper based printable version of "Who R U?"

In the web-based version of "Who R U?" students check boxes of activities they are interested in. At the end their items are totaled and they can click on links to jobs in those cluster areas.

The paper based printable version of "Who R U?" allows students to total their own sections.

I plan to use Career Town and  "Who R U?" with  fifth and sixth grade in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Career site PA Career Zone

I plan to use FREE web-based career assessments My Next Move and Education Planner with seventh and eighth grade. My Next Move and Education Planner are great for middle and high school students!

I wrote a previous post about using Paws in Jobland for younger grades.

I will be using the results from the career interest inventories to invite speakers for Career Café. I will also be including in career portfolios I will be making with students this year.

  1. Oregon has some similar resources, with one that lets students enter their aptitudes/strengths/interests, then selects some possible career choices. When I entered mine to give them an example, it indicated that I might be interested in being a kindergarten teacher. :-)

  2. I love that you do so much with careers. I have not done a lot with that this year but plan on more next year. Colorado has a website called ColleginColorado.org that has soo much. Its actually a requirement for schools to take thier students through the process of doing learning inventories and clusters, etc. It is pretty cool.

  31. Both games were smash hits that have so far remained in many peoples list of great games. Gameplay in itself has many facets that contribute towards the entire Gameplay factor, that we will not explore here, but to name a few, a game designer would consider such things as, Storyline, alternative choices, natural physics, player interaction, etc etc.검증사이트
