  1. I thought this was an excellent episode! The descriptions of the school dance were spot on! I especially liked to comments about the slow dances and how all of the other friends would run up and talk to the "couple" - it's so true! The last story about the boy in the new school broke my heart a bit. I work with several students who are just miserable in middle school and find it very hard to see that it will get better.

  2. Sometimes I find myself wanting to tell my kids who hate middle school that their time will come once they are in high school or even college. Middle School is a really hard time for many students. I see students in my office who feel as if they have no friends and feel lonely and isolated even though on that dance floor they will be surrounded by many kids. It feels that many kids are miserable at this age--- and the poor parents need constant validation that in many cases (there are exceptions) this is a normal experience. What can we do as school counselors to make it better for some of these students?
