Announcing the School Counselor Blog Book Club

I am excited to announce the School Counselor Blog Book Club!

This is not your garden variety school counselor book club.  My goal is to inspire you and spark discussions which will make you think about school counseling in new and interesting ways.

The first book we will read in the School Counselor Blog Book Club is Linchpin by Seth Godin. Although Linchpin is a marketing/business book I think you will find it inspirational. I strongly believe that school counselors are linchpins and that YOU are indispensible! I can't wait to hear your thoughts and ideas while we are reading it together! (I don't want to say too much here... it is just too good... and I don't want to spoil it for you!!!)

Our book club will take place Wednesdays on the School Counselor Blog Facebook Page from Wednesday, June 19th to Wednesday, July 17th. I will be hosting a special Google+ Live Hangout on July 17th to discuss Linchpin as a whole. The School Counselor Blog Facebook Page will be be great for our weekly discussions since people can reply to individual comments! I also don't want people to have to leave the places we already connect with each other to participate in the School Counselor Blog Book Club! ;)

Our first discussion will go live on the School Counselor Blog Facebook Page on Wednesday, June 19th where we will discuss the Introduction and first three chapters, "The New World of Work," "Thinking About Your Choice," and "Indoctrination: How We Got Here." I created a Google calendar where you can access the full schedule for reading Linchpin by Seth Godin for the School Counselor Blog Book Club.

So, head out to your local library, bookstore, Amazon, or Audible to get a copy of Linchpin by Seth Godin. I also recommend checking out Overdrive to borrow books and audiobooks from your local library and get them delivered directly to your e-reader or tablet!

Take What You Need, Give What You Can Sticky Note Board

Last year, I saw a lot of "Take What You Need, Give What You Can" Bulletin Boards popping up everywhere. I decided to fuel my new found love of printing on sticky notes and make a sticky note version. The idea behind the "Take What You Need, Give What You Can" board is that you take a positive message that you "need" to hear or "give" (write) a positive or uplifting message for someone else to take. I displayed the "Take What You Need, Give What You Can" sticky note board on a window near the school counseling office. A traditional bulletin board could also be used to display this sticky note board.  I created 18 different positve messages to print on sticky notes for the "Take What You Need" side of the board. Spring Mindfulness Bulletin Board with QR Codes

I created this colorful, interactive, spring bulletin board for our March & April PBIS theme, mindfulness. I made this bulletin board interactive for students by adding QR Codes with different mindfulness activities. Since most things need to be touch-less right now, I thought using QR Codes would be an easy way for students to access some mindfulness activities. If you are not familiar with QR Codes, QR stands for Quick Response. QR Codes are scannable with a smart device camera (iPad, tablet, or smart phone). you can easily make your own QR codes by using a QR Code generator. You can link the QR Code to a website or online document. When the user scans the QR Code they will be directed to the link. I used  QR Code Generator  to create the QR Codes.  I got the idea for this bulletin board while looking for mindfulness resources. Fabulous Find Friday: Pool Noodle (Funnoodle®)

This week's Fabulous Find is a Pool Noodle or Funnoodle®. For this week's Fabulous Find, I created a video of how to Create a Stress Reliever Using a Pool Noodle or Funnoodle® . Students will love these fun stress relievers and they are super cheap to make! I was able to make 58 - 1 inch stress relievers using the Funnoodle® for $2.
