Tips to Optimize the #ASCA21 Virtual Conference Experience

The #ASCA21 FOMO is real... The next best thing is attending the ASCA Virtual Conference Experience! 

The ASCA Virtual Conference Experience is a great way to access top-notch professional development relevant to school counselors! 

If you have never attended the ASCA Virtual Conference, it may feel overwhelming. 

Andrea (@jyjcounselor) and I share the following tips to help you optimize your ASCA Virtual Conference Experience!

✨ MAKE A SCHEDULE ✨

Familiarize yourself with the conference schedule and determine what sessions you want to attend. Use the virtual event platform to add sessions to your schedule.

Be aware of the conference time zone when planning to attend live sessions.

✨ ...BUT BE FLEXIBLE ✨

Don't be hard on yourself if you can't attend live sessions. One major perk of attending the ASCA Virtual Conference is that you can access all the virtual sessions for 90 days after the July 11, 2021 conference start date.

✨ GET ORGANIZED ✨

Make a plan for recording session notes before the conference begins so you can easily access them after the conference.

Note-taking apps, such as Google Keep, allow you to organize your notes in one place.

✨ GROUP YOUR TABS ✨

Use Grouped Tabs in Google Chrome to organize all the websites you need to access during the ASCA Virtual Conference.

Tabs to group:

  • #ASCA21 Virtual Event Platform
  • ASCA website
  • Google Keep or note taking app
  • TweetDeck and/or social media sites
✨ CONNECT WITH OTHERS ✨

Even though you are #NotAtASCA21 you can make connections with school counselors!

To connect on social media, use hashtags: #ASCA21, #ASCA21VC & #NotAtASCA21.

Look up presenters on social media to connect during and after their sessions.

✨ TWEET YOUR HEART OUT ✨

Use the ASCA Conference backchannel on Twitter (#ASCA21) to connect and share resources in real time.

Use TweetDeck toe asily view conferenceT witter activity across hashtags & accounts:# ASCA21, #ASCA21VC, & #NotAtASCA21.

Use #SCCHAT to connect & share year-round!

✨ GET YOUR SPACE READY ✨

Gather the items you need to virtually attend the ASCA conference. Make sure tech items are charged and ready to use.

Items to gather:

  • Computer
  • Headphones
  • Pen and paper
  • Drink or snack

✨ CASH IN ON CEUs ✨

After you attend the conference, you can print or save a PDF of the Continuing Education Units (CEUs) you earned.

Wait to print this until you have finished attending sessions. They add up!

Last year, I saw a lot of "Take What You Need, Give What You Can" Bulletin Boards popping up everywhere. I decided to fuel my new found love of printing on sticky notes and make a sticky note version. The idea behind the "Take What You Need, Give What You Can" board is that you take a positive message that you "need" to hear or "give" (write) a positive or uplifting message for someone else to take. Spring Mindfulness Bulletin Board with QR Codes

I created this colorful, interactive, spring bulletin board for our March & April PBIS theme, mindfulness. I made this bulletin board interactive for students by adding QR Codes with different mindfulness activities. Since most things need to be touch-less right now, I thought using QR Codes would be an easy way for students to access some mindfulness activities. If you are not familiar with QR Codes, QR stands for Quick Response. QR Codes are scannable with a smart device camera (iPad, tablet, or smart phone). you can easily make your own QR codes by using a QR Code generator. You can link the QR Code to a website or online document. When the user scans the QR Code they will be directed to the link. I used  QR Code Generator  to create the QR Codes.  I got the idea for this bulletin board while looking for mindfulness resources. Fabulous Find Friday: Pool Noodle (Funnoodle®)

This week's Fabulous Find is a Pool Noodle or Funnoodle®. For this week's Fabulous Find, I created a video of how to Create a Stress Reliever Using a Pool Noodle or Funnoodle® . Students will love these fun stress relievers and they are super cheap to make! I was able to make 58 - 1 inch stress relievers using the Funnoodle® for $2.
