Popcorn & Advocacy - Popcorn Themed NSCW Idea 🍿📣

Roll out the red carpet for National School Counseling Week with some popcorn and advocacy! 🍿📣 


For Open House and outside of the School Counseling Office at my school I have a Popcorn theme. A few years ago, I decided to carry over the popcorn theme into National School Counseling Week. Let me be the first to tell you that you do not have to reinvent the wheel for NSCW! This post contains everything you need to host a 🍿 Popcorn Themed National School Counseling Week.

Treats

It is always fun to include a treat for teachers and staff when you are educating them about NSCW and the role of school counselors. I am a big fan of Lesser Evil Popcorn (not sponsored, but I wish!) and they have some really tasty Valentine-themed popcorn that is white chocolate strawberry. I also love how the colors matched my theme! 🤩🍿

This idea was inspired by Dr. Sarah Kirk. She shared an image with all the different roles and responsibilities that she was involved in as a school counselor. I decided to create a popcorn version to match with my theme. Click here or on the image below for an editable Canva template of this image.



I created these cards to attach to bags of popcorn. 



I made this short "Pop Quiz" as a way to engage teachers and share some information about School Counseling. I made this image with a QR code that teachers can scan to take the "Pop Quiz."


I used Google Forms to create the "Pop Quiz."  


I create this sign to share how school counselors support students.


On the table I share copies of this "Who Are School Counselors?" Infographic from ASCA. It is a great way to showcase our role and give more information about how we serve students.

And last, but not least, one of my favorite additions to the table: X G-Word Sign. This is a great way to share our title of SCHOOL COUNSELOR vs. the g-word. 😉


This year the theme for National School Counseling Week is "School Counselors Amplify Student Success!"

I decided to fuel my new found love of printing on sticky notes and make a sticky note version. FREE Career Interest Games and Inventories on VA Career View

I have been searching for fun and interactive career activities to facilitate with students this year. I rediscovered  Virginia Career View , which has a wealth of computer based and printable career activities. I have used this website many times, but each time I visit I am surprised by how truly awesome this site is. In the K-5 Section of  Virginia Career View  there is an interactive game called  Career Town ! I used the  Career Town  game with some 5th grade students last year and they loved it. Career Town has three levels with different games to learn about jobs on each level.  The  Career Town  has an educators guide  for each "level' of the game. The  educators guide  has ideas of how you can utilize the game to meet standards and includes ideas for extension activities.  In the 6-8 Grade section, there is a career cluster assessment activity called "Who R U?" . Spring Mindfulness Bulletin Board with QR Codes

I created this colorful, interactive, spring bulletin board for our March & April PBIS theme, mindfulness. I made this bulletin board interactive for students by adding QR Codes with different mindfulness activities. Since most things need to be touch-less right now, I thought using QR Codes would be an easy way for students to access some mindfulness activities. If you are not familiar with QR Codes, QR stands for Quick Response. QR Codes are scannable with a smart device camera (iPad, tablet, or smart phone). you can easily make your own QR codes by using a QR Code generator. You can link the QR Code to a website or online document. When the user scans the QR Code they will be directed to the link. I used  QR Code Generator  to create the QR Codes.  I got the idea for this bulletin board while looking for mindfulness resources.
